There is a large range of canvas stretchers available online. This range consists of Medium or Standard Duty, Light Duty, Medium/Heavy Duty or Goldilocks, Heavy Duty- Midi and the Super Heavy Duty canvas bar. The Standard Duty is also known as Fredrix stretcher bars or stretcher strips. These bars or strips are used by most of the artists and framers. These are in a size that measures ¾” in depth and 1 5/8” in width. The raised and rounded edges reduce the friction caused by the stretching and allows for a tighter canvas face that is more even as well.
The light duty canvas bar is very economical and you can stretch a smaller canvas with this without spending too much money. The Goldilocks canvas stretchers are a great compromise for those that want a substantial side profile that adds to the intrinsic value of the art without having to spend more. These have a 1 ¼” profile that is so close to 1 ½” side profile as to make a good comparison while you don’t spend that extra money.
The heavy duty-midi has added depth at 1 ½” depth just like the Super Heavy Duty bars but again you won’t need to spend so much money. The Super Heavy Duty are the big bully bars and very useful when you have to stretch that large canvas. These bars are incredibly strong so you get a very sturdy stretcher bar at an attractive price.
